If you understand the business of college, you and your student will navigate the process wherein you are in control. You will be able to decide what type of school works for you and your student. You will take out the guesswork of whether or not your student will be accepted. You will have the confidence that you will be able to afford the expense.
Uncomfortable Conversations
The key to having a successful college experience starting with the application process through graduation is being honest and being realistic. The other aspect to remember is that it requires periodic updates. It is not a process where you drop your student off and leave them alone. This video will outline the discussions necessary to keep financial expectations and obligations realistic.
The Emotionally Intelligent Student
Your student will be able to identify their strengths which may determine what they want to study. Depending on if they know what they want to study and why may indicate what type of degree or certification is best for them. Having this information will prevent you from picking a school based on emotional reasons (i.e. loving the campus, being a legacy, bragging rights) as opposed to the school meeting their needs.
Planning Stage
This video walks through the provided questionnaire giving the people going through this process the opportunity to identify their priorities. One questionnaire is to be completed by the student. The second is to be completed by the person supporting the student. After watching the previous videos and completing the questionnaires, both parties can sit down and identify their strategies and develop a plan outlining the college process. This video will give you the clarity to develop a plan with the flexibility to change throughout the journey.
